“My name is Joe Drayton. In 1999, I walked across the country in an effort to create a greater
sense of unity in the world. More than 25 years later, I look around and see a nation still
deeply divided—at times, even further apart. Now, together with my son Noah, I will walk 88 miles from New Bedford to Provincetown as a meditation on what it means to pursue equity.

Equity means fairness. It means striving for a level playing field for all people. It is one of the
great ideals woven into the American dream—a dream that still waits to be fully realized.
From September 17th through September 20th, 2025, we will walk step by step along the
South Coast and Cape Cod, carrying the belief that sustained effort, kindness, and action can
inspire change. We hope that as people see our journey, they will reflect on their own
responsibility to lift others and stand for fairness.

This walk is not only symbolic—it is a call to action. We are raising funds to support organizations dedicated to equity and inclusion, including:

  • YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts – the sponsoring organization of our walk, working
to eliminate racism and empower women.
  • Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts – ensuring access, dignity, and equity for
    survivors of brain injury.
  • SouthCoast LGBTQ+ Network – creating safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces for the
    LGBTQ+ community.
  • Lands End Foundation in Provincetown – supporting local initiatives that strengthen
    community and opportunity.

Each step we take is for those whose voices are often unheard, for communities still fighting for justice, and for the hope that equity can move from an ideal to a lived reality. We invite you to walk with us in spirit by making a donation to support these organizations.

Together, we can take this journey further than 88 miles—we can take it into the heart of our communities.
